Cannon Ball or What?

I just found this and was wondering if it could be a real cannon ball. It has a screw in plug on the side and stamping "61B". Weighs about 5 lbs or so and is about 3 3/4" in diameter.

Oh hey man. I'm not sure. I said yep because it's either a cannonball or something else. But, I have a good feeling. It may be a civil war exploding shell

Don't think it's a cannonball, not with that design of screw plug. I googled shot put balls and found a match to what you have there.

Actually I agree with mirage now that I looked...
These look like the ole Civil War Boreman fuse type balls... but now after a quick research...

Better to error on caution though :P

CBG - Cannonballguy would be in the area of expertise on these balls as well IF it were a CW cannon shot.

My question/warning would be that if ANYone finds something that might be something that might go

Please do yourself and your family a favor, do NOT bring it home like the puppy that followed you home at the end of a rope when you were a kid! These things may or may not be dangerous, that we dig up, BUT....... well....you understand.

At the VERY least, check it out first!!!

Just my opinion, but I would rather not read that a poster will not be here any more because they blew up their family and house.
