Okay friends, I am back again, I have been out many times since I was last here, but have had this damn sore back as well, the ground here is extra hard, just like cement, a friend of mine was out hunting last week, he found this candle stick holder in a dry river bed, under neath it has the following words and numbers.
Stamper in the outer base edge is;
12 then a blank square, then the numbers
1802653 then the word in small letters but capital letters the word
CHRISTOFLE
I weighed it on the kitchen scale and it is 2Kg the metal looks like brinze or brass, but there is also a silver type colour as well, I did try and look on the web for info, only found out that Christofle first came out in 1830, but could be wrong, my friend thinks that it came from Jan van Riebeecks sail boat, it also has this oval crest near the base with the following engravings on it;
Unicorn horses head, ships anchor, rope three castles with bricks between them, the scribings look like they were hand made, will try and take another pic of the crest with my camera, due to the weight, it seems that the base is filled with some sort of lead to give it weight to not topple over.
Anyway I hope that you guys can shed some light about what it is and where it came from.Maybe it is worth a lot of $$$$$$$$$ as well?
