Folks, let me apologize first off. I know nothing about Canadian currency, but thought this was a beautiful coin. The fact it is the year of my birth pushed me over the edge to buy it. I am hoping some of you will give me your input. Thanks!

Old dude it's pretty hard to put a grade on a coin just from online pictures....what I can tell you it's 80% silver I don't know what you paid for it so can't say whether you got a good deal or not.

Wow! I've never seen an 1862 Canadian coin before! Congratz on finding a coin from your birth year! :laughing7:

You bought it for sentimental value. Who cares what it is worth? We all buy things that we might have got cheaper if we looked around. Don't look back. Yes it is 80% silver.

Any Canadian coin minted before 1920 is actually sterling silver and not coin silver. As we know sterling is .925, coin is .900

I used to collect Canadian silver coins, and that one was one of my favorite reverse designs. Yes, it's pretty common, but it's beautiful.

I couldn't resist but respond to your post here from March Dave! :laughing7:

Typically when I find silvers here in Canada I rate them on their 'scrap silver' value and as Bill from Lachine, PQ. already mentioned, grade is every thing when it comes the value.

Cdn dimes =$2, quarters =$5, halves =$10, dollars =$20.
Hope you're getting out this year my friend, :occasion14:
Dave
