canadian pennies

Are you referring to OLD ones?....Im pretty sure they are copper plated Steel now

Depends on the year and whether or not it is a proof coin.
Before 1992 they were bronze, then (after 1996) the composition was either copper plated silver, silver, copper plated zinc, copper plated steel, or just copper.

i see yes the old ones so they were bronze? i dont think any canadian penny was silver i dont think any penny was ever silver except the 3 cent and there were two versions of those nickel and silver.

Yep, the 1998 proof (90th Anniversary Royal Canadian Mint) 1 cent was 0.925 silver (25,000 minted); and the 2002 Jubilee commemorative dates (1952-2002) one cent was also 0.925 silver (nearly 26,000 minted). They are classified as KM#332 and KM#445a, respectively.

so has anyone found one of these buying penny boxes?

If your saving a bunch of them might be a good idea to make a set, there are only 3 difficult dates, which if you have to purchase are pretty cheap, I did 2 sets over the years from circulation with the exception of the 3 difficult dates of which I found 3 in circulation ,,,, Interesting to build since the Canadian mint isn't making any of then anymore

mike, save all copper cents.
