I have the beginning and the end of the story of the engraved 1911 commercial mfg Colt given to us that belonged to her great grandfather complete with Canadian issue Mills holster .
Story :
Bailey Lewis Hall left central WV ahead of an armed posse after being involved in a shooting in the early 1900's . Didn't stop until he got to Moose Jaw , Sask. , Canada . Married a 13yr old girl there
and enlisted with Canadian forces at the outbreak of ww1 . Was invalided out from wounds received in battle/mustard gas attack(s)?
Had a 1911 engraved with the name of a Capt McPherson he claimed he took off his captain's dead
body during a battle .
WV courthouse and records of his crimes burned
After end of ww1 he and his young wife returned to WV and raised a family . He was known to be
fond of the bottle and a bit liberal with the truth .
Have found his attestation papers in Canadian archives and where his files are supposed to be .
Haven't had $ to hire a researcher to follow the records beyond what is available online .
Don't know at this point whether he was a war hero or just a pistol thief .
Colt has verified that the pistol is Canadian contract .
Anybody want to help fill in the middle ?
Not asking for money . Just someone who might have access to more info than I have on COEF in WW1.
