Went out for a couple hours to a site that dates back to 1840's. I pulled this out at 3-4" but it isn't stamped anywhere on it. It is hitting the same as a 14K ring that I just tested it on. Maybe plated nickel? It came out of the ground clean with no corrosion. Any ideas on what kind of jewelry this is or how old? It is about as wide as a nickel.

Thanks all.

hey Stormtrooper,

how big is it and how heavy does it feel? Whatever it is, it's beautiful though.

At the widest part it is the size of a nickel. I'm sorry I cant be any help on the weight, but it is kinda heavy for its size. I know its not silver, but it hits in the nickel/gold range. I would have called it off as being costume, but being from an old site with tons of history, it makes me think.

Storm, that's cool whatever it is.

It looks like a vintage broach that's missing the pin. Try googeling antique broaches and see if you can't find that same one or something similar.

It's cool though!

Congrats.

Nice brooch. I would think that if it was whie gold it would be hallmarked. Just to be sure in these types of situations, I bought a small gold test kit last year on ebay for around $25. It has scratch stones and acid and doing testing takes a few minutes.

Storm it looks like an old brooch.
You did good.

I dunno. Sure is purdy though. Congrats!
