1 plated ring and 1 I am not sure of.

I'm looking for info on the wedding band.

I believe it is a Ostby & Barton ring, who were around from 1870's to 1950.

Found it at the shoreline. Appears gold to me, no plating showing thru even at nicks and scratches.

I was wondering if the stamps could give a clue to the gold or lack of gold content or narrow down the age.

thanks

It does appear to be an Ostby & Barton mark, but if it were gold (solid gold) I would expect the marks to include a fineness indication. My guess is that it's 'gold fill', which is a kind of plating but produced by bonding a layer of gold alloy either side of a core which is usually jeweller's brass or some other base metal alloy. The gold alloy coating is rather thicker and more durable than the gold from conventional electro-plating.

Unfortunately, O&B used a large number of variations for their marks and they seemed to have followed no logical sequence. Although they sometimes have what are presumed to be date letters, there are no reference tables that allow them to be reliably interpreted.
