Can you help ID this coin or token

On the same hunt I dug a 1896 IH and a 1890 V nickel. This was found in the same yard. It has a old style "C" with stars around the C. It does have writing going around the outer edge but can not make it out. Hope to see more detail after picking up a better magnifying glass. Any info would be appreciated.

Was told to use white venigar. What do you think? I'll post when I find out something one way or the other.

Try advice from the cleaning and preservation area. I am almost scared to give advice because what works for one coin may destroy another.
That is a nice coin can you post the the other side?
