OD,
Do you mean it's worth more than the 776?
I have no idea what the book represents;
but I bet it's safe to say that ole vtterboy has one heck of a mineralogist collection.
Sorry you were outbid.
Ebay's a funny place, eh?

Ashleen,

That book outlines the system by which minerals are classified and cateloged still today!

That is the First edition of a very historical book.

As important to mineralogy as Shakesperes works are to liturature.

I have wanted one of these for thirty years......
And I'm still .... wanting.

LOL

Sorry you missed it Old Dog, I just missed a copy of 'Gone with
the wind', at a yard sale last year by minutes.
I gave my son 'The Fisherman', a book about fishing where they
called Black Bass (Green Perch), it was so old.

Keep looking, Fossis.............

From the description I don't think the seller had a clue what it was worth starting it at $33 with no reserve. They are probably ecstatic with the results. Sorry OD, I hope you get one someday, you deserve it...Ryan

Thanks Ryan,
I do have several good books that go in a mineral collection as well, some older some newer all are treasures but the 1837 Dana is conciddered the "Grail".

All originals by either of the Brothers Dana are collectors pieces and should be carefully taken and preserved. if you get a chance to look at one , compare it with a modern book....
They are surprizingly similar. these guys figured out the system by which modern Mineralogy is founded..

Bearbqd, Thanks Buddy. LOL....If you find one....
