Can We All Help a Little...?

I am an avid fisher, & I take care to pack out what I bring in. Including fishing line. It is a killer. We live on such a beautiful planet. It doesn't take much to make a difference.

Thank you Mamabear....you are right on. It breaks my heart when wildlife suffers just because we are too lazy to clean up after ourselves.

I've always packed out more than I can in with. I am usually seen with a black garbage bag attached to my waist with trash I picked up.

Sandman, I am sure you do, and my post or comments were not meant to imply otherwise. I just think it would be great if a few clubs would take the initiative and adopt a local area, scheduling a monthly or bi-monthly cleanup. Unfortunately things like this don't seem to interest the majority of TH'ers out there....

This sort of thing, IMO, should interest various clubs not just Thers. It would be good for the local area to be cleaned up just because. It would also help club image! Having a clean place just feels good................63bkpkr

I always pick up trash, even if its not metal. Most of my hunting areas are parks or in or around water. All these areas usually have trash cans and if not I carry a trash pouch on my belt. People like us see this destruction first hand especially always being in well used public areas. I pray my son will be able to see the world as it is and enjoy it. We are very lucky to have what we do ! There is still the few that take it for granted.

Amen! It's heartbreaking , heart wrenching , all the above. That's a great idea . When my husband and tbe boys go fishing, I take along a bag and walk the river bank and pick up junk... Especially fishing twine , that's tangled in rocks and trees . ( everybody should make sure to take along a pocketknife or scissors )
Another thing ... If anyone uses cans ... Like dog food cans ... Squeeze the opening to crush it before tossing into recycles ( or trash if you don't recycle) animals can get their heads stuck in them and suffocate . My mom found a cat dead with a can in it's head before and my friend grabbed and than ran after yanking a can off a raccoons head . Luckily both she and the
raccoon came out of that uninjured.
Thanks for posting this

That's a good idea,BUT, At some point in life we get tired of cleaning up other careless peoples mess! We spend 18 years cleaning up behind each child. In the Army for 8 years, We got up each morning and POLICED THE AREA, that is went out and picked up the careless peoples cigarette butts and gum wrappers. I for one am for a huge fine or denying entrance to there careless people. Just my point of view. Frank...

If you catch them ... By all means, please do. Lol

Yes I will help.I'm a stickler for making sure I cut up the plastic six pack tabs that sodas come housed in so that animals and fish can't get stuck in the holes. Sometimes when Im walking in my neighborhood I pick up trash I see and dispose of it. People seem to be so careless about our land. When we went to Italy a few years ago I away appalled at the trash we saw in Naples, there was a garbage strike going on at the time but the people there told us how at first they didn't notice it piling up but after awhile it just made the place seem dirty and unkempt, not to mention unsanitary.

You D man Sandman, You are a cool dude, hope you are healthy now. later goldentruth

I have to say, I am more than a little disheartened by the lack of stewardship around here. The locals still have trash pits on their property & dispose of all the waste there. The concrete trucks dispose of excess material in creeks, & what is touted to be an excellent conservation agency turns the other way when it comes down to what's right for the planet/ We have come a long way from the burning rivers, & having lived in WA state & experienced that states iron visited environmental laws, I realize there has to be a happy medium, but until we teach our kids what's good or bad, we will just nurture the same behavior. It starts at home.
