The First is a General Service Button, Would need a backmark to be more specific, The Navy button, is it one piece, two piece or can you tell what it's made of ? If it'a pewter could be an early one. HH Bob

With the type of shank they have, I would say neither is real old.

I agree.


The GS button might be gilded, and if you want something cool to display, get some Aluminum Jelly for it and read my post on cleaning buttons in the "Cleaning and Preservation" section.

It is two pieces. The backs, no marks, of both buttons are on the 2nd photo. The one with the threads showing is he Navy button. There is a trace of gold left at the edge of the anchor. The buttons are not brass. There was a large cent from 1809 found in the same field. Thanks for checking.
