I started to put up a title saying something like, another bad day today. Was kind of put off by a couple things when I went to a new place.

First off, I'd researched this place and although it was a fairly new school yard it had been a farm up until then and an old one. I figured out where the old buildings were and figured I might have a chance at some older stuff along with the clad.

First thing I saw when I got there was evidence that they had bulldozed the whole farm to get it flat enough to be a school and ball fields. As soon as I made my first hole, sure enough, it was that miserable mixture one finds in a filled lot. Also, even though it had rained recently, this ground was like CEMENT!! :( Then, I noticed that my headphones were acting up. I tried, but man!! What a workout!!

I covered a LOT of ground looking for any indications of age. Nothing! :dontknow:

But, as I arranged my finds for their photo shoot, it dawned on me. I really didn't do all that bad. I didn't find what I wanted but I should be used to that happening. :) Even found a couple of interesting pieces.

Here's the overall:

This is one of the interesting pieces. I've found reeds before but never any with some of the very fragile components still there.

IMGA3547.JPG

Look at how tiny these are and I'm not sure of what the cross pieces are made of but that they're still there is neat!
Look at that tiny square nut on the corner!

Then there was this bullet. Hollow point? Wormed pistol round? The lead on the inside of the hole is almost pure white.

IMGA3549.JPG

Straight striations?

Anyway, those and a couple bucks in change? Nah, it wasn't a bad day today either. :)

Thanks for peeking.

i have a bad day when i dont participate in this hobby!, nice finds!!

I know exactly how you feel. Been going through a dry spell. It can be frustrating. But then I think about it. I travel around with one of my best friends looking for a place to hunt. When we don't find anything we always say maybe next time. Bottom line, I'm spending time with my best friend and enjoying the best hobby around! I love metal detecting but it is who I share it with is more important! HH and good luck on the next one!

Well the answer to that question for me is no I can never have a bad day metal detecting. I can have days or weeks that I don't find anything but that's ok in my book because its still great to get out and have the chance to dig the big one or find that cool piece of history that no one has touched in two hundred years in my hands. I have gotten disappointed before with sites I was sure would produce and found a bent nail and some melted pot metal but still a good day when you can walk and don't have to worry about anything but how deep it is or what weather to dig it or not.

Nice bunch of finds anyhow sorry to go on so long

Yeah, that's kind of what I was goin' for. To point out that being able to do this hobby is enough to be a good day. Everything else? Gravy. :)

Thanks!

I thought I was having a bad day the other day. I got permission to detect a co-worker's yard. Drove 30 minutes to find he wasn't home and he forgot to tell his mother-in-law I was coming. Settled on a long hunted park and left it with my first V nickel!. Turned out his forgetfulness was a blessing in disguise.

There was a post here not that long ago with someone saying they had been mugged while detecting and all their gear was taken. I think it's possible to have a bad day detecting.

Yes you can have a bad day! When you put so much effort into a site and get little or no results. Time wasted and time is money. Even though it is a hobby once you been doing it for some time it can get really frustrating.

I'll take the lizard! :headbang: I have little naturalistic fake lizards in several of my flower pots -- and I need more, ha-ha! :tongue3: Andi

A bad day would be breaking your detector & leg at the same time in a lightning storm.

Thanks......I am very new to this.....in fact still figuring out my Garrett 250.......working old foundations here.....finding artifacts, mostly iron and old, deep beer cans or tops of same........yet it is nice just to be outside, enjoying what nature has to offer.....as the grass in fields is getting high enough to make MD difficult, I need to hook up the brush hog soon.......

Well ok then I would say that's a bad day

Ok, I wasn't saying that a person could not have a bad day. Different perspectives make this basically a rhetoric question. But, depending on how one looks at things, "in this hobby" is the operative phrase. To me, when someone or something "invades" our doing this hobby, then it is outside of the hobby at that point. Too simplistic? Yeah, maybe.

What I think I was going for is that when we go out and come back with very little or nothing, we still got out, had a walk, saw the sights, etc. IF, we were mugged, shot, bit, gored, or decided to cross that wet log bridge like we used to be able to do as a kid and break our leg. ;) Well, yeah! That's a bad day. But, it wasn't "inside" the hobby. ;)

Now, about the frustration of a site not panning out, well, and this is just IMHO, if one is feeling like time has been wasted and time is money. I would reexamine one's purpose in doing this hobby. For me, it's a challenge. Figuring out where the past was lived and then proving it by finding stuff from then where I expected. If that doesn't happen, I am frustrated but not at the costs, just the results.

In any case, thanks for all the responses!

NOW, GET OUT THERE AND FIND!! :)
