Can someone tell me the age of this token? Is it a saloon token?

I found this token yesterday at my grandma's house.? It was in her front yard where an old stagecoach route ran in the 1800s.? The front reads "Good For One Drink" and "5 Cents, Schmidt & Konik."? The back has a large "5" on it.? Someone suggested to me it was from the late 1930s-early 40s.? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I believe it is a saloon or tavern token. Without a town or state name, I believe it's called a maverick token. Definitely an unusual name, maybe someone can attribute it though. 8) and different shape. Nice find!

Well I'm in north Alabama and my city and county have been dry since 1940. Prohibition ended officially in the mid 1930s, so if the theory I heard is correct then the token is probably not local.

Thanks for all the help so far. Does anyone else have a guess or opinion on the age?

This token is definitely of the saloon (pre-prohibition) era.? The unusual shape is typical of tokens made in Cincinatti, OH, but that isn't conclusive as there were other makers who made them also.? I have looked in the maverick database I maintain for the Token and Medal Society http://www.tokenandmedal.org/ and several other references, but found nothing for it.? I used some of the genealogy sources to look for the name Konik (the Schmidt name is way too common), but found nothing conclusive yet.? It is entirely possible that the one partner's name was Konig which may have been missspelled on the token.? Anyway, if you are interested in having it listed in the TAMS database, please contact me offline at [email protected]
Nice find!

my dad has one of those with a 1939 penny in the middle of it from somewhere out west. His has something about good luck and "you'll never go broke with me " or something like that, I need to get it down and look at it......
