Can someone tell me if this is a piece of wood or imprint of fish?

I found this in the silt at the bottom of a lake in Arlington, WA. It looks exactly like a fish, esp the tail area. It is surprisingly soft to the touch and at the end of the (tail?) Area it has greenish looking skin on it. Could this just be a tree branch with rings exposed that looks like the tail or is this an imprint if a fish? Prehistoric fish or recent fish? It looks too much like something to not ask this fabulous community of people what they thought it might be! I appreciate all your help and taking time to answer, you will make my day! It's wood. I've seen it all the time at the beach. Some of it I keep to make a future "thing" out of. Seems the future never gets here.

Meg, it looks to me like a piece of cedar that's been underwater
for an extended time. Got an interesting shape, for sure.

Did you pull that out of the Stilly?

It is Mother natures creation, wood can have some very unique patterns in it and this would be very cool to get an artist to carve it into a fish or a bird as it has a good tail section already started. Very cool piece of wood I found a burl on a stick when I was a kid and it looked like a melting skull so I enhanced what was there and used it as a walking staff for years.
