So, I'm digging for bottles and this thing plops out and I immediately think, "Hey a toy" but when I picked it up, I realized "Ooh it's heavy for a toy"

It wasn't a toy...

Anyway, the stuff I was digging was 1940s stuff.

Any ideas as to the model?

Thx

Your pictures are too large for my screen but
the first gun that comes to mind is a .25 Raven semi-auto..

The hand grip screw hole doesnt match the Raven.
Its one of the .25 automatics.
Look for a hangun with the same hole location on the handgrip.
I found a few but wrong shape.

Can you resize your pics?

looks like a Colt Model 1908 .25 auto or a copy of one anyway. I don't see a safety lever, which should be on the left side of the frame. The frame and slide should be stamped. Try using some rust remover and a brass brush and you might get lucky and find a name.

As far as turning it in to the police, they'd likely just toss it in the trash. No way to get ballistics from a barrel that corroded.

Just had another look, and I think I found your gun. Fabrique D’Armes De Guerre De Grande Precision of Spain. Exactly what I thought a clone of the Colt 1908. second and third pics are it.

I think that is precisely what it is! It all matches up. Thank you very much!
I went back today and found a Christensen Agate Slag marble. Guns and marbles, go figure.

Here it is cleaned up a little bit...
It looks quite a bit better now.
It will never shoot again but looking better. Id be tempteed to try electrolysis on that.

Even though its probably a cheap gun, it makes you wonder why it was tossed in a dump.

Yeah the one I found online sold for 135$ definitely a saturday night special. I had a Colt Jr, which is really similar in design, and the thing was a nightmare, jammed constantly, and finally broke the extractor. I can easily picture someone getting fed up and tossing it.
