found this on site where heavy fighting took place in the battle of atlanta.not sure, could just be an old pipe , but kinda resembles the barrel of a cannon.

I lived in a town over a 100 years old and we had pipes like that ran from the underground water pipes to the property surface. Not sure if that is what you found but it looks identical.

thanks, figured it was a long shot. haven't uncovered any civil war relics yet, but feel certain there must be some with all the historical battles that took place in the area.

Looks like a piece of cast iron waste pipe. Is the metal kind of porous where it's broken?

Its a pipe cannon, recall some guys getting in trouble making those in shop class he-he! They could almost take the roof off when the acetylene went boom!

P.S. Gives new meaning to the phrase "Raise the roof!"
