I hunted a tot lot today and recovered this silver (?) child's ring.
It is not marked but it just cleaned up so well. I thought it was plated because there was black on the inside but the black cleaned off and exposed the silver and shined right up. Not marked though hmmmmmm.
Maybe thi silver?
What do you think.

Always good to find a ring, no matter what.

Could be nickel plated, not silver. A quick cheap first test is if the ring sticks or slightly sticks to a strong magnet (Neodymium Iron Boron types), then it is either nickel plated or has nickel/iron in the ring. Any sticking to a magnet is not good for the Silver possibility. If it passes that, then there are other tests for silver.

Nice find! Sure looks like silver, especially since it's nice and ornate.

You need a precious metals test kit. One of the rings I found last year was unmarked. I put a scratch on the test stone, and put a trail across the scratch with the 18k gold test medium and it shined bright blue indicating silver. I got the tip to use the 18k test instead of the silver test bottle from Youtube, and it's a lot more decisive than the silver test bottle.

it is a beautiful ring, congrats. I agree, get an acid test kit, they are pretty cheap and then you know for sure

Nice ring!:icon_thumright: The black cleanoff is the indicator, silver oxydation cause a black patine. DeepseekersADS and dirtlooter's suggestion is the best since you may find white gold one day and get mistaken. :BangHead:

spit on shiny side of foil & wait 30 sec. ---if you smell rotten eggs---ya' gots silva:laughing7:

baking soda on wet shiny side--wrap ring in foil--- again with the rotten eggs---silva'

score edge gently with fine file-- look for brass or copper color under plating :BangHead:

Yes I have a test kit but the silver bottle somehow had a bad seal and the whole solution turned yellow BUT I do have the 18k acid and will try that, thanks.

However it turns out it's still a nice ring find, congratulations! :occasion14:

Ok, I scratched a sample onto a plate and applied the 18k acid to it and it turned a teal (milky) shade of blue but I would not consider it "bright" blue.
Thoughts?

If it turned milky and didn't disappear than it is silver. Congrats

My vote is likely not silver. Sometimes your detector can give you the best clue. Junk rings will come up more like a penny and silver like a quarter or dime.
