Clipped planchet perhaps? You can google the term to learn about it.

Thats what I put up originally, but removed. Its just his finger on the edge. Fooled me.

So what is unusual about this coin? The photo is no help.

Are you sure it's steel? Maybe somebody plated it or used mercury on it. Before you get too excited, LOL, try a magnet on it so see if it is indeed steel. Then we'll go from there.

Steelies (zinc coated steel) were 1943. In 44 through 46 recycled brass cartridge cases were used and it gives the uncirculated and dug coins a different tone.

These are steelies I pulled out of circulation. Never found one MD.

There where mint errors from Denver in 44 in steel.

One per the article. If it's an error so rare red Book doesn't mention it it's probably pretty rare. Like a dime struck on a copper/zinc cent planchet.

the fisrt thing i thought that it was the 1944 steel then i saw The denver mint mark, that would of been the first of its kind , with a denver mint mark. it has to bee plated.

The steel cents for 44 where minted in Denver.

Mine was most likley someone trying to fake one.
