Can anyone tell me what this rock is?

Saw a friend of mine yesterday and he had this rock he showed me that weighs at least 30 lbs. So I put it on here to ask my friends if they had any idea what it is with the color it is. Thanks all.
Photos not that good but I only had time to take 2 pictures of it before he left.

Looks like a large piece of coal but that can't be it.. Interesting enough I would have brought it home.

Looks like a peace of glass slag, he should use a piece of quartz to scratch it. It is nice looking anyhow.
