That T/C is a 20th century jag design. Revolutionary War era cleaning was with a tow worm or a button jab.

I think the piston idea was closer to the mark.

I'm thinking same as Tony & Charlie P... A hydraulic spool valve, plunger or pump piston of some kind, due to the o'ring groves on it. Could be a part from a hand drawn siphon pump to a hydraulic control valve on a farm tractor?

You may be right. Just googled spool valve and it does look like what I found. The site was also a working farm.
