Heya ZIPPEYO

That skull thing is pretty cool...

Can you tell us how big it is in relation to a coin or something? Or maybe a measurement?

Also, any pictures of the back of it might help too...

Welcome to TreasureNet!

Very cool find! That is a cursed artifact that will only allow you to find pennies from now on! ;D LOL Good luck on the ID.

Hard to judge size in your pic. Try to post a better picture.

If it is small (and really is a skull) it might have come off the bottom of a crucifix. A skull or skull and crossed bones appears at the bottom of many old crucifixes. There is some debate about its meaning. Many say it represents Christ's victory over death. Not sure exactly when they stopped putting them on crucifixes but it was probably 100 years ago.

Hope that helps.

remember that the place where the crucifiction took place was called 'golgotha' (the place of a skull)
some suggest that a skull was dug up there also at Christ's death and that it was the skull of Adam.
anyway, that is some of the skull connection to a crucifix

Seems to be a decorative mount for something. We need better pictures to tell if it may have been for horse tack, furniture, etc. The face could also be a cherub which was pretty common. Better pictures are the key.

Does your camera have a Macro lens?

HINT: If you don't have Macro but have a flatbed scanner, drop it carefully on the glass & scan it. Works very well for smaller items. Be careful not to scratch the glass when picking it back up. Oh, if the back ground doesn't look good or washed out put a piece of lt. blue paper over the object. Or use a piece of black paper / material. Hope that gives you a hand!

I really can't see much detail but does any of the ornamentation around the face look floral or "leafy" It almost reminds me of the "Greenman" ornamentation...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Man

It probably is more along the lines of the death's head design found on many of the colonial tombstones
