I found this furniture piece in my late fathers attic in 2008. It had one coat of stain on it, but I guess he never got around to finishing it. I believe he built it himself, but I'm not positive. He used to build furniture pieces as a hobby back in the 1960's.

After sitting in my garage for 6 1/2 years, I finally got around to refinishing it this week. Looks decent, but what the heck is it, a desk or a table? It's around 36" wide by 24" deep by 30" high and has a small drawer in the middle. Any guesses would be greatly appreciated!

P.S. Sorry about the blurry photos. I took them close to dusk and there are no lights in my garage.

at 30 high it is a table for sitting at. in the 50's and 60's I had a couple of uncles that made a lot of their own furniture, very "danish modern" influenced. they built what they needed and then kept making pieces that they really had no use for, eventually with too much big stuff and not enough room, they switched to clocks, toys and boxes. Yours reminds me a lot of the stuff they used to make...but they used teak of course and yours looks like what ?...cherry?

I agree with old card table. It is beautiful whatever it is. Can be used as a desk perfectly I think.

Really not sure. Very hard wood and a tight grain. I was thinking hickory, but I'm not positive.

Not my style, but WOW! Beautiful and looks like excellent craftsmanship

Thanks! My father was a very talented man. He could have made a living as a woodworker if he was a little faster at it, but he was very slow and meticulous making all his furniture pieces.

I hope your dad made it - its a beautiful table. In Chippendale style. (just hoping nobody "refinished" a real Chippendale) :occasion14:

Here is a Chippendale.

Yup, I think it is very similar style to that Chippendale table. Still not 100% sure of it's purpose, but I'll mark this one as solved. thanks for all the help!
