It's a presidential token -- they were given out at gas stations and banks during the 50s/60s

there are whole sets of them - one of them is a Shell Oil game set issued in the 1960s by the oil company itself. Individual medals were passed out at gas stations and avid collectors put them into cardboard holders supplied for that particular set.

Amoco oil also issued a set for collectors to put together

Several banks also issued presidential tokens

I have found many of them thru-out the yrs

Cool find!

yep novelty president tokens * given out if you got so many gallons of gas in a fill up normally at least 8 --back then they had something called gas station attendants (pump jockeys) who would clean your windsheild --check your various car fuild levels as wel as fill your gas tank too,

Shell actually had several series of these. The first set that I remember dates back to ca 1968 when I was a kid. Certain tokens said "Instant Winner" on the back that you could redeem for prizes. I got one (actually my parents did, but I enjoyed collecting the tokens) and it was for a complete bronze (I believe) presidential token set. Wish I knew where that set is today! They even did a presidential series ca 1991/2 or so. The Russians liked them when I went there ca 1992 -- traded a bunch of them for Russian medals/badges that they probably considered to be junk :D
