Its made of brass, around 3 3/4 inches long. found in a terrible state in my late fathers tool box. i remember as a child him talking about it but that was 40 years ago. I pressume its some sort of old military tool?? but realy have no idea. Hoping that someone can help me.

WW1 manufacturer 'L & S' for 'Lightwood & Sons Ltd' of Price Street, St Mary's, Birmingham and a BSA (italic B) inspection stamp.

Just for general information. Oilers like that are also used by the US. The Carbine sling oiler looked just like what you have.

This is how the oiler was used to hold the sling on a M1 Carbine, WWII era.

This oiler is for the US Thompson Sub Machine gun. Don't know if there is a size difference. The M1 Garand also had an oiler in the butt stock, which at first were metal, and much longer than the Carbine oiler. Later they use plastic oilers, with oil on one end and cleaning jags etc. in the other.

Thanks guys for all the info. makes it a bit easier trying to trace who it actually belonged to.

I'm glad you said the thing came from your fathers toolbox because I immediately
thought of one of those cocaine spoons some carried around in the 80's. Geeeeze
And to think I own an Enfield rifle (minus the oilier)
