I found this knife a couple months ago in the woods on this old farm I hunt at times. I finally got a chance to put it under electrolysis for a few days and got the blade open and low and behold I got a brand name. Crocket or Crockes Brothers Sheffield
I am trying to put a date on it. I collect pocket knives and have yet to find anything on this ol' boy in any of my books. Any help would be appreciated.

well its english made---- the "sheffield" name tells ya that --- sheffield was to england what toledo was to spain as far as "blade" making areas goes.

Hey Bro,

Can't believe you got the knife cleaned up where it would open and so you could read the stamp.

It is probably Crookes instead of Crocket or Crockes.

"J. Crookes of Sheffield's: Jonathan Crookes and Son was a well-known firm in 19th-century
Sheffield, England, making pen, pocket, and sporting knives. Their trademark was a pistol and a
heart. For further information, including pictures, see The Sheffield Knife Book by Geoffrey
Tweedale (1996). (Research: Hugh Waterhouse, Sheffield, England)"

You might check with someone like <a href="http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=691">Bernard Levine, a knife expert</a>

Good luck! -Sgt Jim
