We found these on an old furnace site that produced nothing good. Does anyone know the history of these. Google is kind of vague? There is one missing out of a three pack.they were found about 6 inches down. Btw. We were using the new AT PRO we got. It picked up original trash sand castings over two feet down! We tried to dig some up but they were too big and our shovel was too small but we were up to our armpits digging the hole. Literally.

The patent date for your condom tins is from 1935, but they were originally more "tin like" (a sheet material, as described in the link below) and during WW2 these were even given to soldiers for protection that their weapons couldn't provide. I believe it was in the 50's that the package was switched to a thick foil, rather than the more durable sheet material (whatever that exactly was).

Ben,

Thanks for not getting too specific. This is a family forum. :laughing7:

I found 2 of them a couple weeks ago. Mine were ww1 era and read "3 Merry Widows". Cool finds. HH...

This was a really strange find for the area we were hunting. Especially since there wasn't anything else there. We are going to go back and dig the sand castings to see what exactly they are. Could be trash or rejects from the sand casting process. We found two of these. The at pro pro setting was the only reason we found them. It was so faint you could barely hear it.

Bwaaahhhaaa. There was a lawsuit in 1946 because so many failed so there was probably a seriously pissed couple involved.

I'm not gonna trust 42 year old rubbers. I really want to bust one of these open to check them out.

" bust", lol. Just don't pound it open, and make sure you don't penetrate the package:)

No need for those except bragging rights. Serious bragging rights. Btw Holly. This is one of the furnaces I was talking about. I got a serious case of poison ivy the day I found those. Condoms+ poison ivy= not close to worth it. Had to goto to the doc and get a shot.
