Can anyone identify this US Military decoration ribbon - It's VFW!

**** Identified ****
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) membership ribbon
See below.

Can anyone identify this US Military decoration ribbon?

I can not find it on any websites dealing with US military awards.

I found it in a group of four ribbons, probably dating from World War II and
the US Navy or Coast Guard.

The light-colored vertical bars look more yellow than white.

I have not found this specific ribbon so far.

Here are all four ribbons:

This is the closetst I can find.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Certificate_of_Merit_Medal
The Certificate of Merit Medal was a military decoration of the United States Army that was issued between the years of 1905 to 1918.

The Wiki pic does not look exact though, the width of the red and blue seem more even in it, but I am not sure that matters.
Here is a more complete list of awards.

edit here is more, looks to be it.

Unfortunately the Certificate of Merit Medal light colored bars are white,
while on my ribbon they are faded yellow.

I have not found it on any military medal websites, or ROTC websites.

Ah, they look white on my monitor. Are you sure they are not just discolored by age?

Re: Mystery ribbon:

Thank you for your help!

I am sorry but all three of the light-colored vertical bars are light yellow, not white.
The actual ribbon shows the colors better.

Since the other three ribbons date to World War II or before, and I have seen them in a jar
since the 1950's, they would not be new decorations. They have the old pin backs, not the
newer button backs.

This has gotten more interesting than I imagined!

Re: Can anyone identify this US Military decoration ribbon?

I checked this site & didn't see it

http://www.gruntsmilitary.com/

I looked for (l-r) blue yellow red yellow red yellow blue
Could it be (l-r) blue white red yellow red white blue? Can you see any of the colors from the back side?

As the others are Navy, this one probably is too, or Marine Corp

I looked at the back of the ribbon and the colors in back match the ones in front,
light gold or light yellow.

My father was in the US Navy during World War II but never served overseas or was
awarded a Bronze Star. He did have a collection of military items, including a World War I
German helmet and some pistols, so he may have obtained these ribbons from someone else or
from a surplus store.

I have looked on some State National Guard and ROTC websites and can not find a match either.

Willie,

I just sent a pic of the ribbon to all my veteran friends. Will let you know if I get any answers.
