I think they are rivets. The one with the star was posted here before and may be Calvary. Someone thats a Charter Member can search for you.

Charter members on this forum have a paid memebership, and they can use the search engine. That would be a useful tool, and I will become one as soon as I can spare the money!

I need to renew my Charter Membership. I was waiting until I get back to work. If someone searches "calvary rivet" maybe they will find it in the old What Is Its.

That picture of the rivets is not mine. I should have mentioned that. I found it in my files saved from a TN member.

Ok, so I am pretty confident that its a calvary rivet. Do you think its unrealistic finding out what the calvary of the Light Artillery, 1st regiment of the war of 1812 were using rivets with stars on them for? I am new at researching artifacts and this web site.

I dont know. All I know is that I have seen them posted here before (I have the pic) and someone IDed them as calvary rivets. I cant remember any more about it. Hopefully someone will search it for you and maybe it will tell you more. Only Charter Members can use the search feature because it uses extra bandwith. I doubt I can find it.

I think that under any circumstance they would be hard to attribute to "cavalry" use...

I'll do a search for the star rivets here...

UPDATE: Found this post, but only one mention of them being found at cavalry sites... I'm not sure there is any support besides kruger's mention of it.

I'd be more apt to say it's just a brand of rivet... made by one company, and probably a military contractor at the time, or maybe they were replacements in repair kits.
