I found these blue rocks along the schuylkill river in berks county in Pa. Does anyone know what they may be? They seem to be real smooth, like glass almost and they are a pretty cool blue, I think they are some kind of medium soft rock but not to sure. Any help is greatly appreciated!! Thanks for the help and good luck in the hunt!!

Looks like slag glass from a blast furnace, frequently washes into streams, slag is used as road material.

I agree it looks like slag, I am trying to remember if I found that stuff as a kid, since something like that sticks in my memory banks as finding lots of along the river between the Schuylkill Ave and Buttonwood Street bridges years ago.

My guesses are:
Blue opal
turquoise

Do you know the typical tests?

Blue slag is a common occurance from iron furances and Berks County did have them and if you look at the website I attached, about 80% of the way down you will see some blue slag. Blue Slag evidently is used in making many different things, from marlble, to jewelry, to lamp bases.
