All, dug this at a homestead that has been continuously inhabited since 1797. I think the base metal is brass. There is a silver-colored coating. But when I dabbed a little bleach on it, the silver color did not darken.

At first I thought it was a dog tag. However, there are no marks of any kind. I began to wonder if it is a metal worn on a chain. The loop has been cut on purpose. Does anyone recognize the shape?

Iron cross or Maltese cross.

I'm guessing vintage biker/leather jacket zipper pull that got pulled one too many times.

Its called a cross pattee. If it is jewellery or a dog tag, I do not know.

All, thanks for the input so far. I need to look into crosses more; hopefully find a match or something similar. Any idea as to its age?

BTW, I had considered a dog tag at first. All those I found in the past had letters on them and were made of thinner metal. Not that this couldn't be a dog tag, but will look into zipper pull, etc.

All, after doing some more research, the pattern looks closest to a Anchored Cross shown at the top of the first thumbnail. This info came from http://www.archaeologicalresource.com/Art/C/cro_Art/cro_Art.html?i=1. When I did a image search on Anchored Cross, all that came up were pictures of anchors. So I searched for the rest. I found several photos of new and old crosses with the hook attached to the cross at the top. Two images are provided. Seeing all these and not seeing any lettering on the cross I found makes me lean towards a pendant instead of a dog tag. Still thinking about a zipper pull. Thanks for all your tips!
