I found this ball button detecting a few months ago. Put it in my collection, but never thought much of it. Last night I was going over some things in my collection and noticed some words on the back. After using a damp Q-tip to lift any details, a flashlight across the back, and a magnifying glass I made out the words "Fine Silver RRD." The "D" next to the "RR" is like an exponent or a degree mark, meaning it is smaller and at the top.
it looks something like this: RR D ,except the "D" is at the top.

After multiple Internet searches of "Fine Silver RRD ball button," "Fine Silver RRD button back mark," and "Fine Silver Button," I could not find anything even similar to my button.

This is a size comparison to a modern dime. I believe that this button is silver plated/gilt

Here is the back. I can not get a photo showing the words on the back because the words are very hard to see with out magnification.

Thanks for taking the time to read this post!

Thanks, CRUSADER! I always wondered how old it was, thought it was modern.

Nope definitely circa 1850s.
Problem is that we Brits have not cataloged many of these back-marks, so your only likely to find some of the more well known company types.
