Looks like somebody machined down the back of the coin in a lathe and etched in their own symbols for whatever reason. Maybe a secret "club", or possibly boredom.

It's a home made Masonic token...  they used a classic Mason symbol on a penny.

It is Masonic, it's a Royal Arch coin. Although the wording I heard for
the letters are different.
