A friend brought me these dolls to see if they were worth anything. Think they came from Tokyo in the "70's. Very well made by hand. The arms are about 10" long and the legs are 12" long. The feet are sewn on backwards. The way it is stuffed, it is easy to move at the shoulders, elbows, hips and knees. I can't find anything on these. 100_8260.JPG100_8259.JPG100_8261.JPG100_8262.JPG100_8264.JPG100_8263.JPG

Just tidying up some blasts from the past (including some very ancient ones), largely for the benefit of anyone searching the site for information.

Those look to be Michael Lee dolls. The feet aren’t on back to front… it’s just that the legs have become twisted from shifting and compaction of the stuffing. Lee began making Chinese character dolls in Shanghai in 1947 and moved from China to Hong Kong when the communists took over. He had a shop in Kowloon, Hong Kong and also exported these hand-made dolls, using the ‘MICALE’ brand until his death in 1996.

Vintage ones are quite collectable, although not particularly valuable. Collectors want them with an original tag because there are ‘lookalikes’ around from other makers.
