I am new to this site. I found this about 12-18 inches deep at low tide near Jacksonville Fl. I'm also new to metal detecting. Any help would be wonderful.

Since you say you found it "about 12-18 inches deep", I assume it is metal, instead of some other kind of material. If it is metal, please make a little scrape on it and tell us whether the metal's color is yellow, orange, pink-ish, or silvery.
Also, is it lightweight or heavy for its size?

r your response and help.
A friend of mine showed a few pictures of it at the University of Florida and that gentleman told my friend if it was what he thought, the man/historian said it should be in a museum because there are none in existence in local museums
