In addition to getting accurate size-measurements from you, we need to know what the object is made of.

Since you say you found it "about 12-18 inches deep", I assume it is metal, instead of some other kind of material. If it is metal, please make a little scrape on it and tell us whether the metal's color is yellow, orange, pink-ish, or silvery.

Also, is it lightweight or heavy for its size?

Looks like it was threaded. Cap to something would be my guess.

Hello and thank you for your response,
I did what you asked and these are the results.
It weighs approximately 10 g and is 1.3 inches long by 1 inch wide. When I scratched it, it appears to have a silvery tone. The odd thing is if you put your thumb in the grooved area it almost seems like it fits to your finger. Someone else asked me to magnet test it though the magnet would not hold it or even respond to it. Feel free to contact me. I am extremely new to metal detecting although I keep finding really interesting objects. I'll try to send more photos, again thank you for your response and help.
A friend of mine showed a few pictures of it at the University of Florida and that gentleman told my friend if it was what he thought, the man/historian said it should be in a museum because there are none inexistence in local museums. Yet he still did not make it clear as to what it might be and how old it might be. Who knows?

Also I forgot to tell you, when I found it I think my detector may have gone off on a steel steak which was beside and on top of this object at about 8 to 10 inches deep. So I guess I found it by mistake. I was about to cover the whole up though I decided to stick my detector down in the hole getting an additional town. So I dug a little further and found this.

I guess its a broken corroded remnant of a brass threaded cap for something. We may never know what it was for.

If someone thought this remnant should be in a museum, you need to ask what he thought it was.

Hello Sir,
I was wondering if you had any further input on what this might be you seem to know what you're talking about. Thank you
