Can anyone help date this dagger Quillon/Cross guard

Hi
I found this Quillon while detecting yesterday, it looks like the decoration is ceramic. I've drawn a bit of a blank on dating it. The area has had Roman, Viking, Celtic and Norman activity.




Can anyone help with an accurate time period.

Thanks mud hut, I've no idea myself, as examples on google all look similar. The area where it was found is very close to a Roman villa, which made me think Roman.!

Hopefully Crusader or Silver Searcher will come along with their opinions. Both of them probably at least found a couple of those what ever it is.. Looks like very old bronze is all I can say it looks like, decorated with fired enamel. I'm sure it's something special.

The design looks Medieval, but as they are pretty uncommon in the states I could be wrong. Whatever date, I would think it's a fairly high status piece based on the enameling. Similar to this one :

Your be hard pressed to find a match on the net of any examples from this period, if you do they will be in Museums.

Well I was only off by around 1500 years or so in my guess..... That is an incredible find!
