Enlisted Collar Insignia

Complaints in 1907 about the loss or snagging of officer cut-out collar insignia led to the adoption of bronze circular disks for enlisted personnel.

Die struck with the branch, US and unit designation, the collar ornaments changed to gilt after 1924.

I'm not sure when they ONLY said U.S. and stopped putting the unit designation on them...

A clearer pic of yours might help attribute it to an "era"...

thanks for your input guys!! I found it in my backyard. I live around a naval community, so that might explain it. The disk is made of bronze and the US tage actually unscrews...my dad had one without the disk when he was an army cap in vietnam.

Thats right... the disk was "enlisted" and the "cut-out" U.S. was (is) officers...
