I posted this in today's finds but figured I would try the experts here as well...anyone familiar with the medal? I am looking for a date. Also, knowing nothing of metallurgy is this silver? It is damaged as seen in the pics but the shiny parts are quite brilliant. Thanks all.

Well it must be between 1936 and 1952 as it has George VI and Queen Elizabeth on it

Yep, I figured that much. Just trying to nail it down. This is a tough one...I have Googled every possible combination and have not found a single reference or photo of the medal. Nothing on e-Bay... ???

PBK must have a book on provincial medals... ;D

My best guess is that it might have been issued for the Canadian tour of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in 1939. It looks similar to souvenir medals struck for presentation to school children on such occasions, and that could also explain the Department of Education reverse.

I was thinking something along the lines of an excellent attendance medal or something along those lines...

I think its 1937.

As its seems like a Coronation Medillion sold to the general public to celebrate his Coronation. I think that for a couple of reasons:
The metal quality is poor therefore unlikely to be a Medal.
The King & Queen are wearing their coronation crown & regalia.

95% sure
