Could have been a carpenters gauge for cutting open mortise and tenon joints?

if it is not a gauge, it is a shop project...we used to do things like that...learn how to fit complex joints..

Thats was my thoughts...but what is made out of one inch stock that needed these type of joints?...Havent figured that part out yet.

I think old shutters were sometimes made at 1"?
And would have similar jointer
