Can anybody tell me what this bottle was used for?

[FONT=&quot]Bottle was found in a barn being taken down. Has small round depressions on both sides in groups of four, and a small PP marking on the bottom. [/FONT][FONT=&quot]The bottle is 4.5 inches tall 3.5 inches wide and 2.5 inches thick. [/FONT][FONT=&quot]Anyone know what this bottle might have originally held?[/FONT]

my guess is hair tonic, the shape is right. the depressions are to help with grip once your hand are oily
