I am new to the coin roll hunting hobby and basically collecting coins period. I would always save coins that you dont see every day for example wheat pennies. But now I am looking to step up my coin collecting alittle bit and would just like to learn more about the coins themselves and maybe what I should be looking for as a collector. Any book suggestions would be helpful thanks!

Depends on what you want/what you collect.

For US coins, the Red Book ( Amazon.com: A Guide Book of United States Coins 2011: The Official Red Book (Guide Book of U.S. Coins: The Official Redbook) (9780794831486): R. S. Yeoman, Kenneth Bressett: Books ) is essential. If you can't afford the newest version getting one a year behind isn't the worst thing, the pricing will only be slightly out of date. If you don't want to buy online, Barnes and Noble and other major bookstores usually have it in stock.

If you are coin roll hunting, you might want a book on die varieties such as the Cherrypicker's Guide ( Amazon.com: Cherrypickers' Guide (9780794822859): Bill Fivas: Books ) or something like Strike it Rich with Pocket Change ( Amazon.com: Strike it Rich with Pocket Change (9781440215780): Ken Potter, Brian Allen: Books )

Of course, if you want to get into non-US coins like British, Medieval or Roman/Greek numismatics, you'll need other books. For a generic guide, you can find those things online (things like what to store coins in, how to buy them, etc.) but reliable price guides and good die varieties are usually only found in print, especially for ancient/foreign coins.
