Can anybody help me with this weapon?

I am at a loss. I was told it could be very old due to the pitting of the metal. Does anyone know about it? Age? Origin? Type of weapon? Value?

The wood is obviously not original to the blade.

It is 22 inches long by 4 inches deep measuring blade only. It is very heavy and perfectly balanced but I do not know the exact weight.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!
