Well I've been hitting our new lease pretty hard. No battles around here, but I sure hit the jackpot. I found 3 1840 seated dimes in same spot. Today I went out an found a small possible kepi infantry button, and general services button, and three piece officers button, and to top it off I found a script A button. Also two minie balls. Going back tomorrow, and Sunday. Happy huntin everyone.

How would I get that green crusty patina off without changing the look of the rest? I dried it up, and that green looks like if I kept it on it would eventually mess it up. Or should I jus leave it alone? I don't wanna mess it up. We'll I'm about to head back there now. Wish me luck.

Those are some great buttons!! I wouldn't do much to them, they tell a story just like they are. If you go to far, you can't get it back. Congrats on some great finds!

That is a really nice Script Artillery button. Makes me envious.
As far as removing the green Verdgris you might try gently toothpicking or soaking in oil to see if that loosens it up, but i would be afraid to mess with it too much.
Im with relic nut. From my own experiences i have to agree with what he says. "once you go too far you cannot get it back".
There is only one thing i know of that can remove that type of Verdigris, and it would likely destroy the buttons patina, and probably make it look much worse in the long run.
You may consider contacting a professional cleaner, or restorer if you are serious about having the green removed.
Here is a link to Leonard Shorts page. Maybe he could do it, recommend someone, or give you some advice.

Wow, any chance you could move Central Miss. to Western Oregon for a couple of days?

Yea. I think I'll leave it alone. Thanks. I do have that kind of luck. Lol. If it did soak it in oil is olive oil and good one?

After a lil clean up.
