Went back to the spot where I found the large cent and 2 cent piece with the wife earlier, and I'll be danged if she didn't pull out a "hopefully" Civil war era West Virginia 7th cavalry company M hat badge. hat badge b.JPGhat badge A.JPG Lol, her first words to me where, " I think its some kinda pirate thing?".... I seen it and my eyes popped. First hole she dug there too. What luck. I went away from her a bit and was able to find an interesting brass shank button with a train on it (second in pic). Not to be outdone she yelled a little bit later that she'd found a necklace piece. I walked back over to her and got wide eyed once again as she plopped a golden item into my handgilt buttons.JPG Hehe, I calmed down though when I turned it over and seen the solder mark for a shank and a bit of the gilt wearing off. Still pretty nice Imo.

Spent the rest of the day digging the typical horseshoes and random things tossed in, but all in all had a nice day out with the family till the thunder started booming it was time to go. Here's some pics of the other stuff.1902 locks.JPGbells.JPGbrass tags.JPGbutterfly buckle.JPGcastle metal.JPGharmonica reeds.JPG We each found one of the bells and harmonica reeds, but all three brass tags are mine. Kinda hoping to find a connection between the button and the tags. Maybe tool id tags? Plus if anyone has an idea on the iron pronged thing I'd appreciate it. Seems to me I've seen it before, but can't place it. Well thanks for looking and HH.

The hat piece is an awesome piece of history! The 7th cavalry company M fought under General Goerge Custer at The Battle of Little Big Horn.

Very nice find. The hat pin is most likely a "reproduction". Did you find any other civil war items there?? I looks like you have some great railroad items.

Awesome finds!!! Looks like had great day. HH

Am I reading this correctly? :icon_scratch: Your wife kicked your tail? :tongue3:
You both made some great finds there. That hat badge is WAY cool.
Congrats to both of you,
MM

Keep in mind that those kind of badges with the number and company letter are post Civil War. CW crossed sabers were plain, no unit designation until the 1870's. Always cool to get a 7th Cavalry Hat badge. And I doubt seriously that it is a "reproduction", it is real. Maybe not 1870's, but real.
