Calling all Rockhounds! Here's a new pup!

Hello, my name is Jennifer I'm 30yrs old. I'm from Michigan, moved to Anderson, SC. Looking to meet new friends with a common interest. So, Im calling all you ROCKHOUNDS!! Would like to meet up and dig, chat, lunch, Willing to drive if need be! :)

Where are you from?
Favorite rock or gem to hunt?
Feel free to add a pic of your fav find!

First Of all welcome.. second.. If you feel using the term rock hound discribes you.. by all means use it.. Howeevr I don't liek the term and would never call my self a rock hound.. I do enjoy advemntuing into the unknown and finding the rocks and mineral I enjoy searching for and collecting..

Sadly I'm unable to "be" here as often as I would hope.. However I can make good on the "open Adverntures" aspect.. and I have made a note of this to others here.. and as a new forum user.. thsi would apply to you.. I would liek to plan a few trips to a verity of locations this year.. but things don't always go as one would hope.. But I will make an effort to keep those whom are instreated in grouping up for a dig posted on our next travels destionation.

Typically we attemd gem & mineral shows.. (whcih is a great place to learn) and even dispute what others have found So never limit yourself and keep your eyes open, ask questions and be willing to help others in thier searchs.

the term Rockhound was offensive?
Of course not.. just I've seen and heard allot of bad things about these so called rock hounds.. and no your didn't put yoru foot in yoru mouth..

I wanted to add.. that althou I've been to a number of "other" gem/treasure forums.. Treasurenet is and always be my home.. be it good or bad.. most here a bunch of great people and are willing to help in any way.. As for my knowladge of the stone.. I tend to stick with what I feel I know and have seen.. So by not means would I say I'm and expert..

One thing to remeber is that the earht si made up of mostly water.. but next in line is Quartz.. and most rocks etc branch off this.. As for what I mean by limiting myslef or I stick to just a few rocks in my invantory.. Usely these are whats called the "most Common" verity of rocks and minerals.. in other words.. if it looks like crystal quartz.. then it prob is..

So at times many tend to get into big arguments about what soemthing is or isn't and one thing that helps anyone here. if if you take great pics of your finds.. and trust yoru gut feeling.. So aren't any wrong answers.. just misinformed responses.

Along the same lines as our adventures.. if you drive a jeep.. that even better.. Rocks and mienrals can be found any where and never doubt your finds.. if you like them.. then by all means means something to you.. and it doesn't have to be or mean anything to anyone else.

lastly.. Placing a value on your minerals.. is hard.. and what soemthing is "valued" at may not be what someone is willing to pay for it. try your hand at the "poor mans" sluicing or road side gem mines.. before you set out to acutally dig a site. and GL

Hi MoJo! I have been referred to as a pebble puppy 'cuz I don't spend all my time & money on rocks. that being said, I can't even go out to the mailbox without looking for a good rock. actually found a fossil that way! I have a small collection of minerals & semi precious gem stones. they are displayed front & center. wish you were a little closer so we could get together. one of my fave digs is Ron Coleman crystal mine in Jessieville, ARK. another is outside of Green River Wyo. at the Blue Forest site. It's petrified, opalized wood. It's pretty dug up, but I still found lots of good pieces. Please share pix of your finds. & good luck huntin.

Greetings Jennifer, And welcome to TNET. Just do your thing and find some ''Cool'' rocks. If you find an interesting rock and are not sure about it, post it and ask for any opinions. Don't let anyone push you around. You are who You are! If you want to call yourself a RockHound go ahead. I consider myself a rockhound beacuse 95% of the time I am looking at the ground looking for anything that is out of the ordinary. I have several areas in and around my place where I have amassed a small collection of different and odd rocks (fossils, crystals, different and multi-colored rocks). Good Luck rockhunting and don't forget to show us some of your finds.

What! Being called a “rockhound” isn’t cool. 8-) I was called that back in the 60s. Now most people just call me an old fart. :unhappysmiley:

Welcome to TreasureNet Mojo.

Having your foot stuck in your mouth isn’t necessary a bad thing. It show you are still flexible enough to put your foot into your mouth.:laughing7:

Good luck and post your finds.

Very True @Mamabear.. I'd have to say most of my finds are that which I've stumbled upon while walking and not nessaryly in the woods.. streets are full of "dumped" stones which are brought from local quaries. I think the easiest way to acquire rocks, stones, gems minerals is to locate a gem mine or road side slucing operation.

But word of warning.. I wouldn't recommend one buy "discolored" or "treated" stoens from those wagons located in some of those new age shops (unless you like those colorized stones)

can;t wait Mojo.. would be nice to see a few new finds.. I Haven't went out in about 4 years.. other then the fact I find all sorts of minertals on familie's lands.. Carmel jasper, Thunder eggs (Chaledony, Agate, Quartz etc)

Im kinda intimidated actually my finds look like mere pebbles to some I've seen on here! I thought I found a quartz vein but after doing more research I think it maybe a mixture of Calcite and quartz?

I don't know what this one is?

HI I like rocks so much I made it my name! I like all types and colors even atifacts. I went out today Kayaking and looking for rocks. I saw a nice snake and some quartz. Red, blue and white quartz and the snake was nice cause he didnt bite me otherwise I really dont care for them. I am new here also and think its cool that women like rocks and look forward to seeing more of them.

Wow nice finds.. thou not museum quality.. which is everyone's dream, I'd have to say these are a good start to your collection.. Most are of the quartz verity and a few could be Flourite or calcite.. I do see soem rounded crystals (noduals) which could be assocated with chalcedony..

Also.. I didn't see and formations IE structures or shapes to your finds.. If I had seen any type of structure.. I would have said that it was tiem to have an expert take a look at them.. I see Pyrite, Quartz, Chalcedony, Mica, Flourite, Calcite, maybe even a Tiger Eye, Lastly.. Aquamarine..

Keep it going and great images.. and thats a plus to yoru post.

These are a few pics of the location where I found quartz and more! Mostly smokey quartz, Citrine, and calcite. Had a lot of fun digging them out! But not knowing what to keep and what to throw back I brought way too much home! Lol! Got carried away! Would like to polish them. Maybe in a rock tumbler? Or maybe lapping? I have a sander my dad made I could possibly lap them? Lil nervous about doing that thou. Any suggestions?? Comments? Your two cents is welcome! Lol! Would like to find some clear quartz and other crystals and gems! Has anyone been to the Diamond Hill quartz prospect in Antreville, SC recently? I read that it cost $20 per adult but do they charge per pound that you take home? I would love to go! Would love to go with someone that has the same passion for the hunt as I do! Any other suggestions for locations to dig? So happy I found this site! Just wish that more people would say something? Anyway thanks for looking and read my thread! Hope everyone has a Great Week! ;)
