Not needing to know what it is but rather hoping for a date.

Found this axe head, or maybe a hoe head (dont know much about hoes..well there was this one time in Vegas but that was just weird) Found it 7 inches down in the neighbors yard. The town I live in was officially incorporated around 1870. So logically Im thinking somewhere between 1860-1880 for a rough date on the axe.

Thanks in advance

mid 19th and early 20th century Axe/hatchet and pick heads can be very tough too date if they weren't a similar type style of design made by a well known machine made manufacture. I think the dates you indicated are about right but its tough! good luck with it.

I think that your time period is accurate. It appears to be a broad axe, used for hewing round logs into square beams. Nice find.
