California University Belt Buckle - What year and belt type?

Can you identify what year this brass belt buckle was made, and what kind of belt
would have fit it?

It is probably from the University of California, Berkeley, due to the bear emblem.

Buckle size is 3" x 1-1/2".
Buckle is marked on back in small letters "NSCO ATTLEBORO MASS", might be "USCO".

Added 12May08 for clarification:
I bought it at a flea market in Alameda, California in 1968.

That could also just be a buckle for California and not necessarily Cal Berkeley. Made yesterday?
