California Gold nugget

Dug up this 5.1 gram gold nugget from a small grassy area near town on Easter Sunday. Gold country here in California is 2 hours away, So how did it get here? I’m thinking it fell off a piece of jewelry or maybe dropped by a miner. The area dates back to 1850’s
Used the Deus2 on beach sensitive program. I find park program kind of weak. Down 6 inches deep. This area has been hit hard by others but there are a few targets left.

What metal detector are you using. I just purchased a Minelab GPZ7000 becuase my garrett kept picking up junk.

The GPZ7000 is the way to go. It would have detected the nugget 12+ inches deep.

At times I wonder how many of my nuggets were actualy lost by early miners, perhaps placed in a pocket, walked up from the stream and hit the high ground to loose that gold.
