Cajon Creek?

Hey MoonRakerSCM,

Klondike here.....

A long, long tie ago...back in the days of being a weekend warrior.... I spent a lot of time on Cajon Creek....

The bed rock is deep.. way to deep to recreational use to reach and most of the area is closed to that kind of mechanical means.....

But... looking across the canyon while drive up or down, (down is better...south) on I-15...past the gas station about a mile or so... you'll see some greenish or blueish rock walls...on the far wall where the rail road tracks are...they are very noticeable with a sharp contrast against the brown contact zone of the rest of the canyon... That blueish area is the narrows... that blue / green rock is much harder than the rest of the canyon.... and the bed rock is somewhat shallow and you'll find some gold there... you won't get rich but your 10 friends will lots of small fry friends...

Further up the canyon towards the desert.. you'll lots of sand stone rocks turned on end and slanted upwards.. these are the "Mormon Rocks".. a common land mark on the Southern branch of the California Tail during the gold rush... who knows what one might find in the area, if you spent enough time looking......

This is also part of the San Andreas Fault Zone.... thus all the torn up mountains and slanted rocks...it is a very interesting pace to study for geology and historical purposes...

Half way in the canyon, take the road to Silver lake. at the first dry creek.. sample the ribs of the culverts under the road... I have also found some gold there too...

Good luck to you...

Klondike...

Klondike... A tangent, if I may... do they call those upturned rocks.... tombstone rocks? Tnx. TTC

Not that I am aware of terry.. these are HUGE slabs of sandstone that go on for miles.. nearly all across the desert , at the foot of the San Gabriel Mountains.. and are very viable again around Highway 14 and near I 5.... where many a western movie has been filmed.....All the huge slabs are the result of the up trusting of the San Andreas fault line....where the Pacific and North American Plates violently meet...causing he formation of the mountains and these huge slabs of sand stone....

Down around Mariposa... and that general part of central California.. you'll see many many examples of "Tombstone" or "Headstone" slate projecting up. it's like driving through an endless cemetery...again this a result of a fault line and it's movements......

Klondike..

Tnx Ike,
I'm familiar with the stones along CA 49. In the Motherlode. VERY much like headstones, for sure. Only goes to show how violent and active this area along the earthquake faults can be. Incidently, for newbe benefit.... quake and volcano activity equates to GOLD! The area around the Sierras is VERY active, in geological terms. Tnx for the response, Ike. TTC

any rough gps or milemarker coordinates on this place? I am new to CA and need to find some places to poke around

Took the RP4 Shaker Table to the Creek a while back. Anchored it to a concrete slab and got busy. Ran the bazooka sluice as well. We did ok for where we were working. Pretty sure what we were getting was flood gold. This place has had the crap worked out of it. [emoji23]
