Hi all.? For those of you that have been here awhile, you may remember the explanation of a possible cache on my property.? Actually, it was that possibility that got me started with the idea of getting into MD'ing and brought me to this site.? several mutations later, I'm completely addicted to my new passion and turns out I fell into the category of "Clad Hunter".? This is not to say that I have forgotten about the reason I came to this hobby in the first place.? So update on the cache hunt:? There is a tree, one of many that border my land.? One in particular had caught my eye as it had been hollowed out by fire.? As a child I was told about a settlers habit of making a hollow tree into a "Goose Pen" for barnyard fowl.? Well this tree in particular had a slab of tree placed over the hole and was actually growing over the slab in an attempt to heal itself.? One sleepless night lead to another and I found myself there with the MD.? Got a huge overload signal at the openning of the tree!? Over the next few weeks I would go and dig at the base of the tree until I finally uncover the bottom of a very old bucket, (it was buried upside down).? Roots the size of my wrist had completely enveloped and crushed the bucket and I had to keep going back on different occasions with different tooling.? Finally yesterday, I got her unearthed to the extent that it actually moved.? I had snapped several tools to get to this point including a full sized shovel.? When I got it pulled out of the hole, it was only full of dirt.? Going back next time I have a chance with MD to see if any signal persists.? Also will probably pull slab out of tree and have a look inside.? I'll keep you posted~CO2

Looks like you found the old chicken feed bucket C02,hpoe after all that hard work something turns up. Hope that catch showes up without tons of holes to dig.HH

Odd that it's there. You've probably already thought about or done it.
But i think i would check the other trees as well. Good luck HH

What amazes me CO@ is the depth. Why is the bucket that deep and it the dirt from that road or path been piled up to cover the trunk of the tree. it Looks like when the road was cut they piled the scraping to the side and kept going. Pretty cool though and good story. I would also think that the detector could get thru the tree if metal was present in the Holowed part.good Luck.HH

My wife plants a lot of young trees on our place, and I've seen her bury a plastic 2 liter coke bottle that she has punched holes all around beside her trees. She will run a piece of water hose from the mouth of the bottle up above the surface of the ground. When all the dirt is in place she will fill the bottle with water to seep out the punched holes. Maybe explains the bucket under the tree. Maybe not. Keep on hunting it, and welcome to the addiction. HH

Yeah Floater. You can't tell by the pic I posted but that bucket is about 2 1/2 feet down from the surface. I thought about the MD reading through the tree too, but that tree is about 5 feet across. I don't think the old MXT will read that deep!

CO2 - A lot of hard work and determination along with thoughts of what type of buried treasure's lay beneath our feet is what every MD is hoping for. Sorry your hard work and determination turned out to be a bucket of dirt. Just imagine, there could be something buried on your property that could be that pot of gold. Don't give up and let us know about your next great find even if it is more clad coins its still better than coming home empty handed.
