cache

Come on, you don't really think anyone is going to tell you where to look to find a cache that they themselves can recover. You need to do some research first. Learn about how people lived back when the cache was deposited and how it might have been hid. Charles Garrett has out some fine books about this and so do a few others that share their knowledge of how. Nobody will tell you where to look.

First let me know where you live.
State, County, Counties closest to you.

If your talking in General.

Some places. look for Large Trees in Back yards & search between them.
Search fence Posts, and around any Large Boulders.
When you get to a particular Spot, look around and think to yourself,
"Where would I Bury a Cache" where I can keep an Eye on the spot easily, and re Find it Easily & Access it Privately Easily.

Very well put Jeff and well thought out.

During my teen years, several friends and I were camping in the mountains and looked around for promenent landmarks. We each remarked about an extremely large tree that was located across a stream and adjacent to several hiking trails. At the tree base was a cavity filled with a cache of canned food hikers had left for future use.

Landmarks are extremely important clues to potential caches...trees, however, are not with us very long if you are looking for something historic.

Yes. Demolition sites of old houses are good. Dirt cellar floors and root cellars are good too! And always, research research research!

Talk to the old timers too! Old stories about "so and so who was a tightwad" or "so and so who had a lot of money but never spent a dime" or "so and so always paid for everything with silver dollars" can sometimes be more than rumors! If we don't listen to the old timers now these stories will be lost forever.

Good Luck!

Never found one myself, but research on suicides, deaths from ,say the Spanish flue epidemic 1918-20, murders of people that lived alone. Sounds like a gruesome business but the reason being people who may have buried money. Think banks crashed in the late twenties. They left the scene suddenly and wouldn't have recovered their stash. Just ideas, let your imagination lead you. have fun.

I must agree with Buckleboy, we need to talk with the oldtimers...there's always some truth to all rumors.

Rumors such as some old miser never noticeably spent any money so he must have amassed a small fortune. And since his heirs walked away penniless, the old fart must have buried his loot.

If you don't take the opportunity to look, you lose out!

However, if you look and don't find anything, you can walk away having proved a rumor as a rumor, and nothing else. Or, on the otherhand, you didn't look in the right places.

And as Jeff stated, you need to put yourself in the shoes of person burying his cache. Depending on the situation, look for the obvious first such as root cellars, basements, cisterns, wells, fireplaces, tool sheds, barns, chicken coops, and the like. If that comes up dry, look around for obvious landmarks. Its there somewhere, you are just not in sinc with his head yet.

Interesting enough, I just thought about a personal situation. When my parents died, my Mothers Sister told me about a 'Safe' that my Dad had built under a corner drainboard...If I hadn't been told, I would have sold the house without ever knowing what was stashed. Surprisingly enough, there were Title Docs for other properties which we unaware of, insurance papers, bank books (19), and a coin collection.
